PATAGONIA MOTORCYCLE RENTALS FOR SOUTH AMERICAN ADVENTURE RIDING

Patagonia remains one of the most mysterious and sought after adventure riding destinations in the world, and our Patagonia motorcycle rentals are perfect for riding the Andes Mountains of Chile and Argentina and making your trip a reality.

Sites like Torres del Paine, the Perito Moreno Glacier, Mount Fitz Roy, and routes like the Carretera Austral are all gaining popularity for very good reason. Don't wait too long though if you want to see Patagonia as it is now, one of the few truly precious and preserved natural territories in the world!

PLEASE NOTE: The Patagonia riding season is only September through April. Each year, some dates can be sold out well before the season starts, so we strongly suggest you reserve your bikes 6+ in advance or earlier if you want to ride the following Patagonia season!

2019+ Honda CB500x

Another recent assertion by Honda Motorcycles into the Adventure Riding world, riders seeking a compact-sized adventure bike have been raving about the CB500X. With plenty of power emanating from the parallel-twin engine, and an agile disposition, everything from paved twisties to gravel, dirt, and sand can be conquered with this fun adventuring option. Starting in 2019 with it's 19 inch wheel, this bike has proven itself for us in places like Patagonia, and will be a great option for riders exploring beyond.

BMW F750GS

BMW F750GS

Not everyone needs a gigantic adventure bike to have fun, and the BMW F750GS fills that niche of "big enough for the long haul, small enough to have fun." With a power-to-weight ratio similar to the bigger models, 77hp can be used to hang with any other adventure bike on the market and perhaps be even more fun when it comes to the dirt roads and tight switchbacks.

BMW F850GS

When it's predecessor launched in 2009, the world recognized the beauty of a "middle-weight" adventure bike, perhaps most appropriately built to handle it all. The new BMW F850GS builds on a decade of riders trotting the globe on a machine with all the power you could ever need, and agility to go have almost dirt-bike-like fun when the luggage and passenger aren't along for the ride.

Freshly updated after multiple generations of industry-leading design, BMW's R1250GS is yet another masterpiece coming from the company that many will claim pioneered the thought of adventure riding. Boasting 136hp now, yet still maintaining the "flickability" many of us feel in the GS line, load up the bike or head out solo, and you're sure to have a blast from this high performance machine.

FAQS

Where do I fly to for renting a motorcycle in Patagonia?

As of now, all our points of service for Patagonia motorcycle rentals are on the Chilean side of the border, although our bikes can be ridden into Argentina and other countries if you wish. Please see the list of start/finish cities on this page, and inquire directly with us if you have questions about which airports to use for each location.

When is the best weather for riding motorcycles in Patagonia?

For the north to south routes like “Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego & Ushuaia!", riders can expect a range of temperatures. Most commonly, we ride between about 60F/15C to 75F/24C, but riders should be prepared for a range of 45F/7C on the most southern mornings, to 85F/29C on sunny northern afternoons. No matter what, riders should be prepared for the possibility of rain on these trips, although it might stay dry as well. It’s also important to keep in mind that January and February represent the “middle of summer” in Patagonia, so the “further" you are from either month, the colder it will be. — Remember also that the further south you are, the colder it will get, and Patagonia by it's very nature with the Andes Mountains means the weather can change throughout the series of micro-climates we encounter. The routes we take people through and recommend can include everything from the Queulat Rainforest, to the wide open dry “Pampas” of Argentina. Patagonia is the ultimate variety show in terms of weather and scenery!

Am I a good enough rider to ride a motorcycle in Patagonia?

The riding on either the “Patagonia Experience” or “Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego & Ushuaia!” routes can for the 2015/16 season should be about 60/40 paved vs. non-paved, and the helmet camera footage on this link should help you visualize what it’s like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcEGsgyKS18 - On these routes, you won’t be stuck in the rocky section at 1:20, or the part at the end with the cows, but that should help explain that it’s mostly hard-packed gravel that can be soft and unstable at times, too (like if they just put in fresh gravel to keep the road in shape.) So, to keep up with the exact itinerary you see online, you’ll probably want to ride 50+mph occasionally on gravel.
The other major factor at times in Patagonia can be just the wind and weather. It's important to be prepared for temperatures from 40F to 90F (depending on how far south you go, which month, etc.) and the often-present high winds, in particular on the Argentina side of the border. Please inquire further with us to discuss whether your riding skills and background are enough to handle Patagonia, although in the end, the decision to try it is entirely each rider's responsibility.

Can I just rent a motorcycle and ride in Patagonia?

"Yes" - Many of our customers are riding through Patagonia self-guided, while some still prefer to hire us for a guiding/support service, or to be part of a guided group motorcycle tour. No matter what, when you’re talking with someone at RIDE Adventures about a motorcycle trip, you’ll be communicating with a real person who either lives, or has lived in the region you’re asking about. We provide our motorcycle rental customers with the best insights to hotel recommendations, route advice based on your interests, and with each booking, we also offer the best, most current “turn by turn” notes for following the routes shown on our website.

What does "Self-Guided" mean?

Self-Guided: Means you're essentially just "renting the bikes" from us, but we've prepared all necessary documentation, insurance, papers, one-way freight needs, etc. With all self-guided bookings, we offer the best route notes in the business so that you can find the routes, fuel spots, restaurants, etc. but you're essentially "on your own" and this is of course much more challenging. It's possible to have pre-pay an entire hotel package for you, but that's really a separate topic from the "bike" rental.

How do you handle mechanical issues with motorcycle rentals?

Mechanical Issues: Problems are quite rare on our motorcycles as they are professionally maintained by certified staff, and are all less than two years old to begin with. The absolute majority of the time, a rider's mechanical issues were caused by the rider themselves (when they crashed, broke something, etc.) If you ever do have an issue, the first thing to do is to call the Fleet Manager whose information you would be given upon booking. At that point just wait for the Fleet Manager/s instructions on what to do. We do know of lots of mechanics in the region, and sometimes they can help, but parts are not always available so it’s very important to take care of your motorcycle. All that being said, there are infinite possible scenarios, so explaining how each would be handled is not feasible until the moment or rare case that a mechanical issue happens.
